January 22, 2008 :: SFA begins implementation of a Wired Manufacturing Data Collection System for Spirit Aerosystem, in Tulsa, OK. The system will consist of a single PC to collect the data into a Microsoft SQL Database and report real-time machine status to management personnel as well as reporting machine uptime and downtime. The system is planned to be connected to 64 CNCs. Currently the Predator DNC Module is used to manage and control all NC code transfered to the CNCs using bar code readers to request the file from traveler.
January 6, 2008 :: After a 45 day pilot cell, a Coast Composites issued a order for Predator Machine Monitoring and Data Collection to report on machine utilization and uptime. The system proved to find the current machines were not performing as expected and quickly management could pin-point the areas for improvement. The system will be added to 6 more machines within 60 days to complete the final phase.
December 13, 2007 :: Predator DNC has direct support for Ethernet connection to Allen Bradley SLC 500 series PLCs. The 505 series has Ethernet built in while the other models can add Ethernet modules as necessary. Predator DNC supports data transfer of register specific values and appropriate ladder logic must be running on the PLC to process the specific register details. Predator DNC supports multiple devices running from a single PLC with the appropriate ladder logic. Support for up to 256 PLCs per PC is now available within Predator DNC. This object can be used with Predator MDC for high-speed data collection. A recently completed benchmark with Predator MDC/16 successfully processed two-second cycle times from 10 PLCs simultaneously with minimal PC processor load.

November 1, 2007 :: Predator PRemote is another site licensed command line utility that includes a lot of the power of Predator DNC Connect without the user interface. PRemote dramatically simplifies third party applications and interfaces to be developed to drive DNC and MDC functionality from any Windows 98 or newer based PC or PC based CNC control. October 15, 2007 :: Several new CNCs from Okuma and other manaufactures are now PC-based and allow for intergration of a true HTML client. SFA installed a cell of several Okuma CNCs running Predator HTML Connect to upload, download, and control files from the DNC Server. Operators selected "big buttons" from an HTML interface to trigger actions off the CNC control. More machines are scheduled for the upgrade by end of 2007. October 10, 2007 :: Learn about the latest from Predator and SFA in our E-Channel Newsletter September 12, 2007 :: For several years, a Greco System provided a manual process to load by floppy disk to several machines. But over the years the number of machines grew by 10 fold and organizing the disks and the reliability of the drives were failing. The Texas MIC Group contacted SFA to go wireless with 80 CNCs to control, manage and organize the NC files and more. Impleamentation is scheduled for Oct 1, 2007. August 27, 2007 :: With the addition of several new machines and migration from Windows NT, SFA was selected as the leading supply to upgrade Garden Denver's plants through-out the United States. Several plants upgraded to Predator DNC wireless and wired Windows XP system to allow for easy of movement of the CNCs and eliminate lightening strikes / power surges and full integration with their new company network. All plants were upgraded within 1 month. July 1, 2007 :: Shop Floor Automations new office in Austin, Texas is online! The new office will enhance the SFA's already legendary level of customer service and support. In particular, this will allow company to expand it's normal support hours with it's Grand Rapids, MI office. The new hours are from 6AM to 8PM, EST, the longest standard support hours in from any automation company. SFA will still continue 24 hour support to those customers on SFA's Maintenance Program. The Texas office will allow for quick onsite service to those customers in the Mid-West and South-East. June 15, 2007 :: Shop Floor Automations is proud to announce that 2006 was another year of dramatic growth for the company. During 2006, SFA added an additional support office in Mesa, AZ as well as adding (2) additional technical support personnel and (1) additional office associate. Sales were up 22% for the year with particularly large growth in sales of Wireless Data Collection and DNC Systems. For the 8th straight year, SFA was the largest distributor providing sales, service and support of Predator Software Products nation-wide. May 28, 2007 :: SFA attended the Eastec 2007 this May 22-24 in Springfield, MA. Several attendees stopped by to discuss the latest versions of Predator v7 Software Products. Shawn Dunne, SFA's VP of Service/Support discussed the benefits of using off-the-shelf wireless serial hardware compared to competitor's proprietary solutions in a press meeting. May 1, 2007 :: With over 60 CNCs and long RS232 cable runs, SFA recommended a solution to KF Industries to use Predator's FlexN 1 port serial to ethernet devices. Each machine is connected to the corporate network via a CAT5/6 cable which then links to a small, box mounted inside the machine. The CNC is provided an IP address and allows the CNC to be moved anywhere on the shop floor. The reliability of data improves, faster baud rates, and mobility all out-weighed running RS232 cables to each machine. An order was received and implementation is to begin by end of June 2007. April 23, 2007 :: After receiving a call from CPMI, SFA responded quickly to get their CNC Machines communicating again. The company located in El Cajon, California had a Greco System for years with no issues until the Touch Screen PC computer crashed. Unable to get support from the previous DNC vendor, SFA replaced the system with off-the-shelf hardware and a Dell Laptop. All the machines were uploading and downloading, with 2 additional machines added to the system. SFA was noted as exceeding the expectations of the customer with their support, service, and price. April 2, 2007 :: SFA will open two new offices to better serve customers in the Midwest and East Coast. While the corporate office is located in San Diego, CA, the new offices will provide sales, service and development to end users. The offices will be located in Grand Rapid, MI and Austin, TX by June 2007 or sooner. March 30, 2007 :: The Machine Tool Industry is still improving as attendance and the # of leads exceeded previous shows. A number of potential customers stopped to view Predator's new Haas Data Collection System running on (2) Haas Simulators. In real-time, the feed hold or emergency stop button was pressed to generate a text message and show a score board of the status of the machines. Furthermore, Bob Cad-Cam was demonstrating the latest version of the new Bob Cad-Cam 2007 which included Predator's Virtual CNC Product. The show was a complete success with the Presidents from Predator, Jim Abbassian and Shop Floor Automations, Greg Mercurio meeting with existing and future clients of Predator Software Products. They also discussed further partnerships with other Cad-Cam and Machine Tool Builders who would OEM the Predator Products and Services. March 20, 2007 :: After a week in Houston, TX, Shop Floor Automations meet with hundreds of clients to discuss expanding existing systems and implementing new solutions. The new trade show booth attracted several attendees to stop in and inquire about Machine Monitoring and Data Collection running on the Haas Simulator. At a push of the Emergency Stop Button, the real time score board was updated with the status of the Haas Machine and a text message was generated to a cell phone in the booth. Also, the President of Predator Software, Jim Abbassian, presented the latest version of Predator Virtual CNC Verification Software demonstrating the Machine Simulation of a 5-Axis Gantry Machine. March 4, 2007 :: After running 50+ CNCs on a wired DNC System for years, RTI Claro, a subsidiary of RTI International Metals, in Québec, Canada needed to replace the old system. The new Wireless DNC System from Shop Floor Automations / Predator would eliminate the need to run RS232 cabling to all the machines in their new facility. The company setup several Wireless 802.11 Access Points through the buildings and connect each machine to a Wireless CNC Adapter mounted inside the machine cabinet. The adapter received the data from the wireless network and delivered the NC programs, and offsets to each machine via a short RS232 cable to the machines serial port. Each operator was able to remotely save and load NC programs as needed with a few key strokes at the CNC control panel. The system was installed in less than 1 week and controlled from a single Windows Server.
February 18, 2007 :: After 10 years at over 25+ trade shows, the Predator Software wood booth will be retired. Many trade show visitors commented how different the booth is designed and created using wood panels and crates. SFA has invested in a new trade show booth this year. October 10, 2006 :: SFA begins implementation of a Wireless Manufacturing Data Collection System for Midway Machine & Instrument Co., Inc., in Houston, Texas. The system will consist of a single PC to collect the data into a Microsoft SQL Database and report real-time to the management the status of the machine as well as reporting on uptime and downtime. The system is planned to be connected to 18 CNCs. September 18, 2006 :: Shop Floor Automations and Predator Software opened a new show room in El Cajon, California for customers to visit, test new products, and train new customers. Arrow Machine Industry opened their doors SFA to demonstrate the different modules of Predator Software Products to clients. The new facility will run the latest versions of each product and currently uses a 16 port FlexN serial hub to link to a variety of machines. A wireless network also is in place to communicate NC programs directly to the Predator DNC server. To learn more, visit http://www.ami-mach.com August 25, 2006 :: After years of running a old DNC System, Amarillo Gear Company, in Amarillo, Texas elected to network their plant with a Wireless DNC System. Forty CNCs were linked using Predator's DNC Software to communicate NC programs, Email from the CNC control when the machine was down, and notify when files were sent back to the PC. Using Predator's Remote Request features, operators eliminated walking back and forth to the programming office to request files. Serveral DNC Clients were placed on the shop floor to leverage the wireless network to allow for operators to communicate old CNC machines with BTRs, once running tape readers. The system was installed and operator trained in less than 4 days. July 21, 2006 :: Predator Software, located in Portland, OR, completed their annual reseller conference. After 2 days, resellers learned Predator continues lead the market in automation software for manufacturers and machine shops with their MES Suite. Predator reported growth in sales and profit for 2006 with plans to focus on large corporate accounts. New product releases were being finalized and planned to be released shortly. Shop Floor Automations was announced #1 reseller of the year, for sales, service and support. This is SFA's 8th year in a row to receive this award. June 16, 2006 :: SFA has finalized a new web site with Office To Web (www.officetoweb.com) and will soon publish the website in the coming months. With the new design comes ease of navigation, additional product information, and support pages. Future plans are to develop a separate support website to allow for customers to login and gain access to products purchased, maintenance contract details, order addition product and talk directly to support technician. June 6, 2006 :: SFA has opened a remote office in North County of San Diego. This office will be a sales office for our clients in and around the San Marcos, Oceanside, Carlsbad and Poway areas. We look forward to helping the local manufacturing business grow and will be able to better server our potential and existing clients. May 12, 2006 :: A new release of PDA Connect (v2.65) is now available for download for all customers who have purchased the software since the release of v2.60. The new version now included a line delay function to help control the flow control to older CNCs that might experience a "buffer over-flow" error message. With the addition of this feature, older machines can now be used the PDA Connect Software. In addition, a PDA Connect Windows version is included with all purchases to allow the user to transfer programs to and from a PC to the PALM. The 'Multiple Transfer' function in the software allows for several programs to be loaded onto the PALM with a simple click. Check out the PDA Connect page for more details. April 28, 2006 :: SFA reports strong 1st quarter for 2006 as the industry continues to grow. Sales were up by 14.7% over last year and an indicator the pattern will continue. A record month was set for the company in April 2006 with sales derived from Wireless DNC Networking and Software Maintenance renewals. Management continues to discuss merger with other companies to deliver solutions to customers nation-wide with regional offices. April 14, 2006 :: SFA hires new employee for marketing and office management position. Candice Ray who has been in customer service for many years, brings great knowledge to SFA to assist in marketing development and customer follow-up. She also has an accounting and shipping background to expedite our order process system. We welcome her to our company! April 10, 2006 :: Westec 2006 another success! With the Machine Tool Industry strong, attendees were out to view and purchase new tools for survival! SFA met with many new and existing customers and shared the benefits of starting with a DNC Networking System and allowing growth into a Machine Monitoring and Data Collection. Several clients stopped by the booth to see "live" data collection on a Haas Simulator using Predator's MDC Adapter (Hardware PLC) in combination with Macro B Language (Software on the Haas Control). Because of the integration with a variety of controls and not using proprietary hardware and software, customers were open to expanding their current system with Predator. Further interest developed at the SFA booth that Wireless DNC, Travelers, and Tool Crib Management tied directly into Predator's MES Suite. March 27, 2006 :: Predator Software announces pre-release of all 2005 products at Westec 2006. On-hand was Mr. Jim Abbassian, President of Predator Software, made a presentation to the media and existing customers about the upcoming benefits of investing in a MES Suite to manage, control and monitor the shop floor. As a guest speaker at Westec 2006, Mr. Abbassian demonstrated the latest features of Predator MDC Software and the benefits of OEE. It was said to be on of the highest attendances at Westec. March 16, 2006 :: Predator Software is expected to release v7 of their Tool Crib and Gage Crib Management Software. The product been released as Predator Tracker combining both Tool Crib and Gage applications into one product. Predator Tracker will be supported under Windows 2000, XP and Server 2003. The application will have added support for printing barcode labels for all major components, added Kit Number Material References and Feed Rate, Spindle Speed, Depth of Cut and Step Over to all Material References. The application stores all data in Microsoft's Access or SQL database, or Oracle.

January 23, 2006 :: Looking to connect your Laptop or new Desktop PC to your CNC but don't have a standard communication port built-in? Many computer manufactures like DELL and HP have removed the standard DB9 Male serial communication port for laptops and desktop PCs to provide a low-profile and compact computer. However, users today need this port to communicate to CNCs and USB to serial adapters just don't cut it. "Many of the USB to serial adapters on the market these days use drivers ported from old version of Windows into Windows XP and never been tested or proven out for CNC Machines.", states Joshua Ray in SFA Technical Support. December 22, 2005 :: SFA hires a new employee to help in our technical support department! Justin Welsh has extensive knowledge in computers and networking and will assist customers with installation of Predator's DNC Networking and CNC Editor Applications. Our website has been updated with a Frequently Asked Question (FAQ) area that can answer common technical questions asked by customers. November 11, 2005 :: Shop Floor Automations hits record sales for October and 3rd quarter. Sales increased 20% based on strong sales from Predator's Manufacturing Data Collection Product and Predator Maintenance Contracts based on Predator's anticipation of new products released for 2006. All customers who have active contracts will receive the latest upgrade at no charge. October 14, 2005 :: SFA has released a new version of the PDA software formerly known as "Vista Serial". The software will be distributed as "PDA Connect". The application has been improved to support additional CNC settings based on profile as well as global use. Customers will have the ability to try out the software on existing PDA units they might already own or purchase proven models supported by SFA. Furthermore, each copy of the PDA Connect Software will now include a Windows Based Application to allow for multiple files to be Hot-Sync or downloaded back to the PC at no additional charge. October 4, 2005 :: Completion of a 17 CNC machines via Predator Wireless DNC Software and Hardware has opened new avenues to a global leader in power transmission for heavy-duty industrial clutches and brakes. The company investigated various wired solutions to connect their machines located in Wichita Falls, TX. The plan was to connect each machine with an RS232 cable using serials hubs but found running cabling to each machine and possible electrical storms to be a concern. SFA recommended a Wireless DNC Solution and connected each CNC with Wireless CNC Adapters. The installation was completed in a few days and proven to be very reliable and eliminated cabling expense. Furthermore, other wireless devices such as laptops, bar code readers, and material handling devices could be added for future expansion. September 13, 2005 :: SFA secures a $33,000 order with a Los Angeles company who is a global supplier for can seamers. The company purchased Predator DNC Networking Software to replace an proprietary DOS-based solution. The company required a system that would run under Windows XP and could be expanded into the future with ease and off-the-shelf equipment. The system will consist of networking 64 CNCs with a variety of new and old machines. The older CNCs will be updated using Predator Hand Held Terminals and BTRs to allow full remote uploading and downloading from the CNC control. Plans to move towards Predator MES Suite will be considered in the future. August 30, 2005 :: SFA begins implementation in Alabama for a company who is one of the world leaders in the design, testing, manufacturing and assembly of a diverse range of high-performance composite structures for a range of civil, military, commercial and space programs. The Predator DNC System consisted of (5) Ethernet to Serial hubs placed strategically out on the shop floor to connect the machines. Sixteen (16) bar code readers were also used at the CNC to remotely request the part program desired with the ability to automatically print setup sheets and drawings for the operators in the plant. The system is expected to be completed by end of September 2005. August 3, 2005 :: Customers are sharing success stories with SFA based on our new Web Based Product Training Classes. Stay tuned for sign-ups and up-coming schedule... May 6, 2005 :: A new Command Timeout object allows you to set a master timeout value in minutes for Send to CNC and Receive from CNC commands. By adding this command timeout object to any appropriate Send to CNC and Receive CNC commands they will timeout after no activity. For example, if the Wait for CNC option is enabled it can now timeout and return to Remote Request without sending the CNC program. This will happen when the timeout value specified within the command timeout object expires before the machinist pushes the read or input buttons on the CNC. The idea behind this object is to eliminate extended periods of time when Predator DNC is not in remote. May 4, 2005 :: New Serial PDA bundles are now available with VistaSerial Software. We are currently hiring for Installation Technicians.
Requirements: A strong technical PC hardware and software background. Experience with serial communications is required. Oracle and Access experience as well as a knowledge
of the metal working industry is also desired. Position will require over night travel.
