Did we help your company achieve its goals? Did we do a good job? Did one of our technicians go above and beyond the scope of work?

We would love to hear about it! Perhaps you could send us some feedback that we can post on our new website – and include your name and company. Just reply to this email. If you include your t-shirt size, we’ll send you a free G-Code t-shirt!

While we’re on the topic of performance, if we fell short of your expectations, we would like to hear about that as well – so we can make the necessary adjustments to our operations.

Shop Floor Automations Newsletter – July/August 2014

july august 2014 shop floor automations newsletter The following is an archived copy of the Shop Floor Automations Newsletter – July/August 2014 issue.

Add us to your agenda for the upcoming IMTS 2014 show to see the latest in software and hardware for efficient manufacturing.

We will be presenting new solutions in wireless and USB, along with machine monitoring to capture uptime, downtime, feed rates, spindle overrides, part numbers, and more while using mobile products like Android and Apple.

See the latest in how CNCs like Okuma, Mori-Seiki, Mazak, and others work with MT Connect, FANUC FOCAS, and Siemens OPC, to present detailed metrics to managers in real time. Our booth is E-3240.

We’ve added a convenient live chat feature to our website.

You can now communicate with a live person instantly by clicking on the icon above on our website. It is found in the lower left corner.

Our live chat staff can answer technical questions; provide shipment status, stock levels, and general pricing on product or services; help you navigate our website and online store; or help you consult with our sales staff.

Scytec’s DataXchange has updates that add some new features based on customer feedback.

The primary addition is being able to have saved charts and source connection notifications. Several other features include part numbers and counts being displayed on the real-time dashboard, filtering by shift, and having unlimited displays and reporting to clients on PCs, iPads, monitors, and more.

More customers have started adding machines due to the free 2-week trial, during which the payback can be seen immediately.

Leverage the power of Okuma THINC with Predator CNC Service to provide intelligent software-based machine monitoring via an Ethernet interface.

Predator CNC Service supports machine operation modes, cycle counters, variables, feeds, and speeds for all makes and models of Okuma Mills and Lathes with P300, P200 and P100 CNCs. Leverage the power of Predator Machine Monitoring and Data Collection from within Okuma THINC to simplify and track CNC machining and productivity. Contact us for a free 30-day trial.

Over the 16 years we have been installing DNC systems, both Ethernet and wireless, we have been asked many times if there is a way to connect our DNC systems to the RS-232 port internally in the CNC control, with a hardware connection to the network, but still being able to leverage the DB25 connection on the outside of the machine. The answer is YES!

We have developed a “Y” interface cable to keep the outside serial port operational to plug in a laptop or external USB Connect device and run the DNC system. If and when things fail, simply plug in the external device and the Y interface cable does it all and keeps your system up and running. Send us an email for more details.

july 2012 shop floor automations newsletter The following is an archive of the Shop Floor Automations Newsletter – July 2012.

Manufacturing Engineering Magazine Summarizes Managing Factory Data

Executives, managers and engineers are constantly looking for ways to streamline data and take control of the shop floor. There are only a few companies that provide solutions to help attain these goals.  For example, monitoring and ERP/MRP are two key areas that are typically considered to be the same; however, they provide different areas of focus and results.   Shop Floor Automations is able to provide you solutions for machine monitoring and ERP/MRP which will help close the gap and manage data effectively within your business system.

Revive Your Older CNC Equipment with Ethernet

As new CNCs with Ethernet communication are added to the shop floor, old CNCs are left behind. RS232 communication via switch boxes, PCMCIA cards or USB is not the only solution.  Using our latest LAN Connect Remote device you can now send files from your office or pull them from the CNC using FTP and Ethernet.  There is no software to purchase, simply attach to your existing (or provide a new) network and you are able to leverage 2GB of storage with on-board memory.  Our LAN Connect Remote device is easy to install, simple to use and a great, low cost solution to bring everything into the 21st century.

MTConnect to be Showcased at IMTS 2012

MTConnect is a set of open, royalty-free standards intended to foster greater interoperability between controls, devices and software applications by publishing data over networks using the Internet Protocol.  Scytec has been a participating Technical Advisory Group member and will be discussing how their DataXchange product leverages  MTConnect to provide a real-time view of the shop floor.  Machine controllers with MT Connect Adapters, such as Okuma, Mazak, Mori Seiki and FANUC with FOCAS Drivers, can be linked to a Cloud Based Data Collection system for only $45 per month, per machine  Be sure to stop by booth # E-3240 to see a demonstration.
